Webpage stories 2
The funny thing is that you never can trust in anything if it is about some online stuff. You always have to have suspicions…
Where we stopped last time was, that with the hints of the coworker Balázs started to optimize the webpage for the mobiles, tablets and for the speed. And it just didn’t want to work. The video was too slow or it didn’t appear on mobile. Pictures were re-sized somehow.
The collegue showed Balázs some cool pages, where the pictures could be minimized and the performance could be improved. He helped with it and even if he had a side business in this webpage creation topic, he did not want to accept anything for his help.
Just little side note, that in the meantime of these big-big webpage works I couldn’t wait to have a running site and this was my milestone for being able to post and share things with you about the game. As we agreed with Balázs that it could be nice that you can check the site as well not just the FB everytime when there is a new content and you can subscribe there, it was mandatory. And I was every time sad when some things like these happened which prevented us from going further on this way.
So they were working on it. But it seemed to me that the webpage just did not want to get faster. So new and new plugins were downloaded and set up for it. Slowly the webpage started functioning properly both on mobile and on laptop.
Balázs had a todo list with just several bugs left. I started to feel that oh yess, something will happen finally, I can start thinking. Then BAMM. One morning the website crashed. Totally. It could not load the welcome video, icons disappeared, buttons were relocated, texts were not visible.
You should have seen his face. I don’t say that I was laughing at him, of course not. But it happened again. We were so-so close and then what. Go back, try differently. Thanks, really.
The coworker guy helped him to investigate things. Did not work. Balázs re-installed the WP theme, made again every setting. Still did not work. He was already considering just to give it up and ask someone to make it from scratch, when the brilliant idea came: why not to ask the motorbike tour guy who helped him out at the beginning?
So Balázs contacted the guy. Who happened to have plenty of time as he was sent back to Hungary as motor tours were cancelled due to Covid. And the thing, on what Balázs and the collegue were working on weeks, was found and fixed by this guy in several hours. (If you are interested, the speed optimizer plugin just zipped a java file, which should have been used by another part ot the theme. But as the file was not there, it collapsed, could not show properly the website and there were differences when we were logged in and when we were not.)
Wohoo, we just did not expect to be solved that quick. But Balázs, just to be sure, shared the webpage in some FB gamer groups, as he is really willing to hear people’s opinion about this game and website and everything to create something in what everyone is willing to participate.
So he shared it. And what did happen then? You can figure it out. POSTPONED AGAIN. Oh, what now…
